It seems designed to create headlines condemning it, revels in "sticking it" to the "PC police" in the hope enough people buy it based on that coverage. But even putting that aside, I'll be surprised if this game turns out to be something other than garbage. In contrast the messaging from the trailer is deeply, deeply messed up. Even if you find that offensive, it still involves violence exclusively between participants of a martial arts tournament and you don't get to mutilate random bystanders. It's tone is that of exploitation cinema.
Some people might mention Mortal Kombat, but the most recent MK, while incredibly gory, is also hilarious.
